Good morning and happy Tuesday!
Yes, I needed one more day of holiday spirit, and now it’s time to boldly face, where no man has gone before, the adventures awaiting in 2019! I hope you, too, are greeting the new year with enthusiasm and that the journey will increase your sense of joy and wellbeing!
This year is the last of the 20-teen years, so let’s begin by looking at respect and how approaching communication with this perspective influences wellbeing.
We’re given many opportunities to show and receive respect and in a variety of ways. For example, there’s respect for self that encourages us to be the best version of ourselves through gentle coaching and acceptance. When we accept, to the core of our being, the good and the not so savory, we’re able to celebrate all facets of life with great anticipation.

There’s respect for family and friends. One might be more difficult than the other to accomplish, as we’re not afforded the opportunity to select our family. Respecting those we care about may be the easiest, though, because we, generally, allow more space for people to be their authentic selves. Someone once said you can’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends (or your therapist!). Accepting the differences we find in one another may lead us to a better understanding if we allow the tenets of success to guide our efforts.
And then there’s respect for others with whom we share some commonality in life. These people might be those with whom we work, have an affinity in hobbies or interests, or whose paths cross ours in daily activities. Respect may look like quiet reflection when we disagree with a statement or train of thought. Perhaps it appears when a stranger seems to be lost in thought and mistakenly breaches a personal space boundary. Maybe the challenge happens when a people group is maligned out of ignorance or lack of understanding. These are the times that respect seems the most difficult and requires the most significant amount of self-control and acceptance.
Zig Ziglar had this to say about respect:

As we begin the adventures of 2019, my challenge is to work on ways to effectively communicate with the people who traverse our reality. If we apply the concept of respect and inspire others to do the same, I’m confident that we will contribute meaningfully to our own wellbeing and that of others with whom we interact.
Have a wonderful and respectful week, month, and year ahead!
Be Well and Be Blessed!
