Good Morning!
I hope you had a restful weekend and gave yourself time to relax and regroup. It’s unnerving how quickly the weeks fly by. Often the thought of resting doesn’t even cross our minds because of schedules, responsibilities, challenges, and surprises. Then, finally, we get to a break in the pace and don’t know what to do with ourselves. Some of us spend time almost catatonic, while others just keep working. Therefore, it’s essential to develop some healthy recreational habits to help us make the most of whatever free time we have.
If we choose not to give our bodies and minds a chance to recuperate from the rigors of our stressors, we may end up with anxiety, depression, or both. For example, I read an article the other day (one of my favorite resting activities!) that stated:
“Anxiety and depression occur together 75% of the time, according to brain SPECT imaging findings at Amen Clinics.”
Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography or SPECT imaging is a process that assists in mapping underlying issues in the brain that impact symptoms. According to their research, Dr. Amen’s team found that mental health issues are often symptoms of brain health. The belief is that when these physiological conditions remain unexposed, mental health symptoms are incorrectly diagnosed. Undiagnosed symptoms lead to frustration and may cause the underlying issues to worsen. Then, when nothing seems to be working, and we’re going nowhere fast, there’s additional anxiety and depression. It’s like being on a rocking chair.
