“The brave die never, though they sleep in dust, their courage nerves a thousand living men.” Minot J. Savage

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope you’re having a great extended weekend!

I’ll keep it brief today, as I’m hoping you’re preparing for a wonderful day with friends and family, getting a little extra rest and relaxation, and maybe making some new memories.

I happened upon this quote authored by Unitarian minister Minot J. Savage from the 1800s. Its symbolism is quite poetic, although characteristic of the times, and probably was as uniquely inspiring then as it is today:

I really like the part that states, …their courage nerves,… because when used as a verb, it means to give strength or vigor, according to dictionary.com. Interesting how it’s the opposite of nerves being used as a noun when it means worried. (Sorry for geeking out on words. Lol!) Anyway, the quote speaks to the everlasting quality of bravery, which is what we remember today. It’s a solemn time, actually, to appreciate and pay homage to the military men and women who have freely and honorably given their lives to protect our country and the rights we hold dear.

I know today some of you are morning loved ones who served in the military. My prayers for comfort and peace are with you.

Scripture reminds us:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

And,

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 (NIV)

I hope people come alongside you to be present in your remembrances.

Have a wonderful week!

Be Well & Be Blessed!
