“To the mother with an anxious heart, I wish you hope. To the mother running on empty, I wish you rest. To the mother with a broken heart, I wish you peace. To the mother aching to have a child, I wish you gentleness. To every mother, regardless of how you got that title, I wish for you to know how preciously loved and valuable you are.” Author Unknown

Happy Mother’s Day!

What? Monday Musings on Sunday?

That’s right! I’m taking the day off, so I’m sending this early. Also, I wanted to share a few thoughts about today.

There are many mixed emotions about this day. Some of us had wonderful mothers and have tried to emulate that experience with our own children. Some of us had moms who were too busy to spend much time with us, but did their best to show up and be present. Some of us had absent mothers, while others’ experiences were those of nightmares.

For those whose experiences were wonderful, I’m so grateful you had an exemplary role model and hope you’re doing the same for your children. For those whose moms did the best they could, I hope you can extend grace and love them, even though you needed more. And, for those whose experiences were less than desirable, please, please reach out for help. You don’t have to carry the burden alone.

One of the most noteworthy passages in Scripture characterizes the woman of substance. In the following verses, we can see the reflections of the mother of faith:

“Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
She watches over the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.”
Proverbs 31:25-29 (NKJV)

As we think about mothers today, let’s remember those grandmothers, aunties, moms of friends, teachers, clergy, and others who stood in the gap to help us in times of need. Let’s also remember those moms whose children have yet to be born. I know of a couple of women who are due to give birth at any moment and a few in various earlier stages. I pray for peace in the experience, relief in the discomfort, and abundant joy as you welcome your new little ones.

I’ll close with this prayer from Pastor Rick Warren:

A Special Prayer for Mothers

Father, thank you for the gift of motherhood and the incredible blessing that mothers are to each of us. We know you have chosen these amazing women and placed them in our lives to love, nurture, and guide us. Whether they’re birth mothers, stepmothers, adoptive mothers, grandmothers, or mother figures, their care reflects your own sacrificial and comforting love.

Today, I lift up every mom. Give them strength when they’re weary, joy in the little moments, mercy through your power, and confidence in the role you’ve given them. Let them know how deeply they’re appreciated and loved by you, Lord, and by their families.

I also pray for those who find this day difficult. Comfort those grieving the loss of a mother, longing to become one, or missing a child. Comfort those struggling to blend a family or those who are facing the pain of a delayed or failed adoption. Surround every mom who carries a heavy heart with your peace and remind them of your constant presence.

Thank you, Lord, for your faithful love ~ a love that comforts us like a mother comforts her child. May we commit ourselves to honoring, loving, and protecting the mothers in our lives as we celebrate and cherish them today and always.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!

Happiest of Mother’s Days to you and the extraordinary moms in your lives!

Be Well & Be Blessed!
