Heroes never die. They live on forever in the hearts and minds of those who would follow in their footsteps.” Emily Potter

Happy Monday!

Today is Memorial Day in the USA! We celebrate the lives of our fallen soldiers across all branches of the Armed Services, remembering their heroism, courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to serving our country. Our hearts go out to family and friends who have lost loved ones and honor them, remembering the price they paid for our freedom.

I recently read a poem written in 1815 about a significant victory fought in New Orleans. The last few lines poignantly express the sentiment of Memorial Day. I’ll share these lines with you here:

“And they who for their country die,
Shall fill an honored grave.
For glory lights the soldier’s tomb,
And beauty weeps the brave.”

Joseph Rodman Drake

There aren’t enough words to adequately express our deepest sympathies for those who are tasked with continuing their lives without their cherished sons, daughters, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and others impacted by these losses. We can’t begin to understand your grief and the sorrow you endure. We can’t imagine walking in your footsteps as we honor their commitment to preserving the quality of life we are privileged to enjoy. We are incredibly grateful.

When we subscribe to the promises in Scripture, great peace can be realized. I think this passage is especially hopeful for Memorial Day:

And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Then He who sat on the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.’ And He said to me, ‘Write, for these words are true and faithful.’” Revelation 21:3-5 (NKJV)

Today, as we enjoy our barbecues, parades, and other festivities, let’s each take a moment to reflect in somberness. Let’s remember the sacrifices made for our freedom. Let’s also remember, with prayers and support, those who have been left behind. And let us offer our gratitude to those men and women who selflessly gave their lives.

Be Well & Be Blessed!
