Let’s explore more deeply our character trait of the month – Cooperation.
In our culture of entitlement, there’s a refreshment in considering this quote from Virginia Burden, who authored the work North Carolina Museum of Art: Handbook of the Collections. The success of a museum, it seems, is dependent upon how the artwork is arranged in theme and purpose. We notice how works are gathered according to period, artist, type, and kind to provide the visitor with a unique experience that leaves them feeling led by the desire to engage with the artist in the motion and feeling of each work.
The overall cooperative theme allows for cohesiveness and an understanding of how artists can maintain a distinction in their work, but also reflect the underlying spirit and expression of the times. Similarly, when we come in commonality to problem-solve, innovate, or celebrate, the spirit of cooperation can permeate the gathering and enrich us both individually and collectively.
