As we begin preparations for Thanksgiving, I thought it would be appropriate to explore gratitude in the context of Wellbeing. Gratitude is a way of feeling and expressing thankful appreciation. Author, Melody Beattie had this to say:

I appreciated the concept of turning what we have into enough, and more because we often forget that our good fortune is so much greater here than elsewhere.

The practice of gratitude isn’t just applicable to the physical but is equally significant to the wellness we experience in other areas of our lives. For example, mental, emotional, and social responses, when peppered with gratitude, can transform negative reactions into those of tolerance, positive expression, and acceptance providing a foundation for balanced wellbeing. Before we even get out of bed each morning, let’s express gratitude for 5 or 6 people, events, or experiences in our lives. The exercise will posture us to have a higher degree of optimism. Our positivity will, in turn, promote an atmosphere of appreciation and harmony that might be infectious!
