I hope you had a lovely weekend! It was a little chilly for those of us who are native Southern Californians. (Yes, there are a few of us!) But, as my friends on the East Coast reminded me, at least we don’t have to dig out of a snow bank. The cool air did give us a taste of winter, though, and gave many of us a reason to get the fireplace going as we usher in the holiday season!
Speaking of the holiday season, yesterday was the first day of Hanukkah. This year Hanukkah extends until the evening of Monday, December 10th. In the Jewish tradition, this time is dedicated to eight days of special prayers, foods, songs, games, and lighting the candles on the menorah.
Hanukkah, in Hebrew, means dedication and commemorates the time when the Holy Temple was rededicated after Judah, leader of the Maccabees, defeated the army of the Seleucids who were trying to force the people of Israel to accept their culture. The miracle of this Festival of Lights is that when the people went to light the Temple Menorah, there was only enough oil to provide light for one-night. Miraculously, the oil lasted for eight nights!
Be Well and Be Blessed!
