(good morning ~ I’m whispering in case there might have been too much green beer at your St. Patty’s Day celebration yesterday)

Just Kidding! In fact, yesterday you may have been exercising your Social Wellbeing muscles! I’m hoping your weekend, whatever form it took, was terrific and joyful!

Madeleine L’Engle was an American novelist whose love of faith and science enriched the lives of millions. She wrote her first story at age 5 and was journaling by age 8. She is most renowned for her novel A Wrinkle in Time, which won a Newbery Medal. This morning I’d like to share this quote from Ms. L’Engle:

Many of us are familiar with philial or brotherly love, particularly if you’re a Philadelphian. Some recognize storge love as that from a parent. The love we know as agape is different in that it is inclusive and considered the highest form of devotion. The meaning of the word transcends, enduring beyond perceived limitations and denotes covenant.

We’re in the season of Lent and Passover reminding us of God’s love for us, which is the epitome of agape love. For Christians, John 3:16-17 is an expression of the affection we receive based on the life of Jesus:

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

Others have adopted the sentiment of agape love utilizing the expression for charity, compassion, and inclusion. We believe these are excellent practices and that they support Ms. L’Engle’s definition, which embodies the heart of Wellbeing and the love we demonstrate to ourselves and others. In its purest form, agape is simply love for love’s sake. It’s unconditional.

Ponder on love for love’s sake this week. I’m sure if you’re curious, you’ll find the practice will draw you to people, as well as assist you in taking a little extra time for yourself. Agape love is a worthy extravagance!

Be Well & Be Blessed!
