Good Morning and Happy Monday!

A lovely prelude to summer this weekend. I hope you enjoyed quality downtime soaking in some vitamin D!

Have you ever been faced with making a decision that seemed impossible? It’s as if the cards are stacked against us, and the options seemed inadequate. Sometimes we feel like we’re backed into a corner with no way out. Other times there’s such a breadth of choices that selection seems impossible. Once in a while, the decision-making is clear, and we’re able to easily select the best response based on our projection of the future and knowledge of current needs.

However, it’s not always that simple. We feel like doing nothing would be a better alternative. Many believe that not making a decision is the worst choice of all. Some say even a small decision is capable of radical life change. And then, some believe that any decision is better than none because the act opens the door to creativity. I like Thornton Wilder’s thoughts on the subject:

Thornton Wilder, a 3-time Pulitzer Prize winner and recipient of the National Book Award, had a unique view of life, as evidenced by his efforts as a playwright and novelist. His most notable works included: The Bridge of San Luis Rey, Our Town, The Skin of Our Teeth, and The Eighth Day. His writing encompassed the human condition and unfortunate events that oppress the innocent and undeserving, and religion, literature, and philosophy, as their influences are both historic and continuing.

I appreciate this quote because making decisions is often a solitary endeavor that is sometimes frightening but frequently yields significant recompense. As we become more courageous in decision-making and free ourselves from the fears that hold us back from our successes, we can make choices confidently and effectively. We face numerous opportunities to exercise our decisiveness each day with outcomes that can have significance now and later in our lives and the lives of others.

Scripture helps us view making decisions this way:
“For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them.” Isaiah 58:2 (NKJV)

And from American writer Wilfred A. Peterson:

“Decision is the spark that ignites action. Until a decision is made, nothing happens. Decision is the courageous facing of issues, knowing that if they are not faced, problems will remain for unanswered.”

In courageously approaching decisions, we realize new independence that encourages strength in making choices. Once we become confident, we can model making worthy choices to others. Perhaps we have clients or employees who could benefit from making more relevant choices. Maybe we’re raising children or working with students. Imagine how empowering it is to others around us when we show the benefits of making decisions and choices with strength and conviction!

Have a wonderful week exploring decision-making. Try to embrace the process and then show the world your confidence. Let this week be a game-changer!

Be Well & Be Blessed!
