I appreciate this quote on determination. The words seem to capture the essence of mindful contemplation and inspiration. When we find purpose in our activities, be it work, family, or a cause, we ignite that fire within that fuels our determination to succeed. I believe our most significant motivational force comes from within. Determination is one of those internal factors that encourage us to seek our soul’s purpose and delight and then relentlessly pursue completing the goals we set.

Jesse Owens, an acclaimed Olympic athlete in the 1936 games, once commented that “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.”

Tommy Lasorda, Dodgers manager for 20 years and inductee in the Baseball Hall of Fame, similarly noted that “The difference between possible and impossible lies in a man’s determination.”

And, Paul teaches us in 1 Corinthians 9:27:

“I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No lazy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.” (MSG)

You see, strength comes from an unconquerable will. It’s not magic; situations, people, or adversity can’t dampen it. Strength comes from determination, hard work, and the express desire to succeed.

I think of people like Helen Keller, who overcame great adversity to become an inspiration to many by the sheer determination she had within. Others, such as Rosa Parks, Theodore Roosevelt, and Mahatma Gandhi who fearlessly faced challenges because the fire in their souls burned hot and unquenchable. And my young friend “J,” who has broken barriers in the world of Autism chasing his dreams without the ability to communicate verbally, yet because of his incredible will and determination, has received national acclaim and is changing the way we look at limitations.

Perhaps there are individuals in your world who exemplify the spirit of determination and the resolve to accomplish what sets fire to their soul. Maybe you’re inspired, or you may be the one who inspires. There’s value in being mindful of the determination around you and in being conscious of your self-talk. You may find that enlisting your brand of determination can make the difference in accomplishing your goals quicker.

This week, fearlessly pursue what sets your soul on fire!

Be Well & Be Blessed!
