I hope your weekend was pleasant!

The character trait we’ll be looking at this month is cooperation, which has been described as working together for a common goal.

I like what Nelson Mandela, champion of racial reconciliation, had to say about the subject:

Mandela’s words speak directly to the social component of Wellbeing. Being genuinely interested in those with whom you interact is a skill that promotes solidarity and unity, and affords a group of like-minded people, or those who might be less connected with one another, the opportunity for safety in expression. Finding commonality and providing safety are two of the most effective ways to promote harmony and lay the foundation for successful teamwork.

Cooperation is particularly important when there is change. With emotions heightened and tasks being reassigned, people may naturally gravitate to the known or form groups to feel protected or shielded. Fostering an atmosphere of safety in sharing thoughts and collaborative discussion allows for growth, even during tumultuous times. Surrounding friends, families, and colleagues with dignity and humility encourage them to utilize their gifts and talents, furthering the mission of the collective.
