Further to the exploration of mental health awareness month, I wanted to share the following quote:

“There is no greater honor or privilege than facilitating that process of healing for someone. To bear witness, to reach out a hand, to share the burden of someone’s suffering, and to hold the hope for their recovery.

And likewise for the survivors of distress and adversity, that we remember that we don’t have to live our lives forever defined by the damaging things that have happened to us. We are unique, we are irreplaceable. What lies within us can never be truly colonized, contorted, or taken away. The light never goes out.” -Eleanor Longden

Eleanor Longden is an international speaker and author who has received acclaim by the World Health Organization, the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the American Psychological Association, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and the British Psychological Society for her person-centered approach to the complexities of mental health and the challenges surrounding psychological distress.

Most of us are afforded the opportunity to be present with someone who is struggling with a personal or familial issue at some point in our lives. Sometimes we feel ill-equipped to guide and offer suggestions, while other times we know that our presence is just the right support we can provide at the time. There are occasions when we recognize that someone is in severe distress and our compassionate response to them in pointing them in the direction of a trained professional, perhaps amid protests, may be life-changing.

These times of holding hope for a friend provide a basis for recovery. And, in the moments of understanding another’s struggles, we are also building the foundation for honoring our own uniqueness. These are the victories that render us irreplaceable.

Have a fantastic week holding hope for yourself and others so that the essence of the light of health and wellbeing never go out.

Be Well & Be Blessed!
