Happy Monday!

I hope you got some excellent self-care in this past weekend. It amazes me how quickly the time flies by during the week. It’s even more curious how time seems to move more rapidly on the weekends. There’s scarcely time to do the errands, let alone indulge in some necessary downtime. It would be wonderful if some of you could share your strategies with me so that I can pass them on to others.

Fortunately, we have an extra day today, as it’s Presidents’ Day. Deemed a federal holiday in 1879, the commemoration of Presidents’ Day honors the leadership and legacy of our United States of America presidents, and notably President George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln. This day is also a state holiday, and celebrations differ depending on the state’s protocol.

I was looking for a quote that is as relevant today as when it was first uttered and came upon this gem from President Ronald Reagan:

President Reagan pointedly stated the beauty of life in a way that embodies many of our thoughts, hopes, and dreams today. Living an uncluttered life allows us to be available for deeper contemplative dives and tougher internal explorations. Being generous with our love removes barriers with people and groups that may feel marginalized.

This generosity lends itself to encouraging a caring mindset that is both fearless and bold simultaneously, allowing us to give freely from ourselves in ways that make a greater impact. Words have power and speaking kindly to one another fosters growth and tolerance in a world that desperately needs gentle and loving attitudes. And in the end, leaving the rest – the unknown, the unmanageable, the seemingly untamable – to God provides a strength we couldn’t begin to envision.

I’m reminded of the following verse from Scripture:

“But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself too seriously— take God seriously.” Micah 6:8 (MSG)

It’s that simple! It is lovely to see people coming together with the common purpose of understanding one another. I believe this is possible if we take to heart the words of the Scriptural passage and those of President Reagan. And I love the part about not taking ourselves too seriously. We create such drama by making ourselves the center of the universe. Our Lord is more equipped to handle the universe and keep it on its axis.

If we spend more time getting to know and care for each other without judgment and biases, we’d be better able to support and practice the acronym KISS. Keep It Simple, Sweetie! Live simply, love well, embrace kindness, and speak with gentleness and care. The rest is for God to manage.

Remember to KISS the world this week, or at least those within your sphere of influence. The benefits will astound you as you contribute to joy and peace. Who knows, you may deliver the only simple kindness someone experiences this week!

Be Well & Be Blessed!
