Jon Kabat-Zinn earned a Ph.D. in molecular biology from MIT. When a Zen missionary visited the campus, Professor Kabat-Zinn was intrigued and began to explore meditation with noted teachers, such as Thich Nhat Hanh, utilizing the practices to create Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). MBSR brings thoughtful, meditative techniques into the scientific realm as a means to cope with the effects of trauma, pain, stress, and illness through an awareness of the present.
His words bring us to another application for integrity. If we focus on the moment with eyes that see in a wholistic way, we can face each situation with integrity, that is with honesty, fairness, sincerity, and honor. We’re then able to choose to act and respond in ways that espouse kindness and compassion.
This week, challenge yourself to practice random acts of kindness. Summer is a great time to find ways to bless others! Maybe you can offer a refreshing drink to a friend or surprise someone by adding money to their parking meter. Perhaps you can encourage someone who is struggling with a task. The little time and effort it takes may mean a great deal and in the larger picture, will add to the other person’s feeling of Wellbeing, as well as your own.
Have a beautiful day and mindfully enjoy the coming week!
