I hope you had a lovely weekend! Rest and recreation are integral parts of balanced wellbeing and essential for the tasks awaiting us in the coming week. Protecting our time to reflect and recharge is vital to all areas, not the least of which is our mental wellness and attitude.
Mariel Hemmingway has been recognized as an accomplished actress and writer and is an advocate for mental health. Having had her own bouts with mental illness, she speaks openly about the challenges she’s faced and how she’s been able to overcome adversity.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) reminds us that 1 in 5 people struggle with mental health at some point in their lives. The critical aspect to remember is that mental health challenges are treatable. Unfortunately, over half the people who face mental health issues never receive the support they need due to the surrounding negative stigma.
The good news is that there’s help if you or someone you know is struggling with issues that seem overwhelming. Reach out to a friend or loved-one for support. Sometimes, talking with a friend is just what we need to get things into perspective. Sometimes, however, we need to seek professional help. There are many great resources available, so please reach out for the support you need.
