June has arrived and with it the promise of summer! I noticed many pictures taken at the beach over the weekend. What an excellent way to spend some time engaging in self-care!

This month we explore Wellbeing through the lens of self-discipline.

Many of us conceptualize self-discipline as attaining a goal or accomplishment through some means of deprivation. I would challenge us to transform that perception into one of creating, through consistency and intentionality, positive habits that add to the quality of our journey. The truth is the only way to control an outcome is to master how we perceive a goal and make intentional moves to bring that desire to fruition.

You might wonder about managing your thoughts. Sometimes we feel a barrage of ideas that seem to recklessly interrupt our pattern of reflection. The experience leaves us exhausted and allows negativity, confusion or chaos to occupy free rent in our minds.

Through intentional practices, such as mindfulness, we become equipped to filter content and select the notions we choose to entertain. In this way, our thoughts become conscious choices, thereby enhancing our sense of purpose leading to overall balance. Practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and prayer fill our need to slow down and connect with our process and lead to improved wellbeing.

Schedule time this week to practice a mindful approach to your day. It doesn’t take much effort. Even if it’s only 5-10 minutes 2-3 times during the week, the benefits will be surprising. Moreover, you will be practicing the positive aspects of self-discipline.

Be Well and Be Blessed!
