Most of the schools are open now, and children are going back for the academic year. My hope is that it will be an incredible year of growth, generating many happy memories for our families. Some of our youth are preparing to leave for college, which presents an entirely different set of experiences and changes family dynamics, as our children begin to explore their autonomy. My wish is that we can be confident in the fact that we’ve given our young people a good foundation.

We think this is pretty sound advice! Our children are like sponges gathering up every bit of information that we feed them. Sometimes, how we act in life has more impact than our words, so modeling the character traits we value has even more importance.

The same is true with leadership. The most important behavior we can model for our team is in demonstrating our expectations, not merely talking about them. You see, a couple of the fundamental aspects of leadership are 1) our teams will only grow to the extent that we’re able to demonstrate our effectiveness, and 2) the way we lead, our influence, will determine our team’s potential – both constructive and adverse.

If we understand and embrace these concepts, we can change the trajectory of a team or organization. It’s simply about how you choose to impact another’s life. If you purpose to let people know you and what you value, there’s a greater likelihood that they’ll be more acquiescent to supporting your vision. We’ve learned that the most efficient way to accomplish that end is to treat people fairly and with dignity both at home and in the workplace.

Have a great week exploring ways to demonstrate your effectiveness and influence!
