We begin this month exploring loyalty. When we think of loyalty we think of faithfulness, devotion, constancy, reliability, and fidelity. Loyalty exists among friends, colleagues, and families who have the ability to cling together when things are challenging, as well as when there is calm. Rensis Likert, the creator of the Likert Scale used in gauging peoples’ attitudes, had this to say:
“The greater the loyalty of a group toward the group, the greater is the motivation among the members to achieve the goals of the group, and the greater the probability that the group will achieve its goals.”
Did you ever consider loyalty as one of the elements needed in attaining your goals? It seems that an attitude of loyalty is one of the characteristics necessary for achievement. We can accomplish much, individually, as we set our minds on the outcome. But, with the support of a motivated and loyal group, we can reach our goals more readily and to a greater extent.
Work at building a cohesive and motivated group mindset. You will accomplish more than any one person on his or her own. And, although each one may have strong leadership skills, collectively you can be an unstoppable force!
Take a moment this week to celebrate the uniqueness of each individual’s contribution from the perspective of how those skills and talents support the group consciousness and ability to attain the collective goals. Then, thank those on your team for their untiring loyalty and support.
