This month we look at Self-Discipline.
Do what’s best regardless of how you feel…Ask yourself, will this behavior get me where I need to be?…Know what’s disciplined behavior and what’s undisciplined behavior…Commitment-Learn it….Be prepared to face difficulty; no one said it would be easy…Rule your mind or it will rule you…Remind yourself why you’re doing it in the first place…You must learn to control your irrational side…Know what you want and know what you need to do to get there…
How many of these have you heard or told yourself?
Self-discipline seems to be a mixture of being tough on ourselves and taking a realistic approach to our goals. Sometimes we sacrifice the short-term gratifications for the long-term objectives. In the process, we must take an honest look at ourselves and gauge our capacity to chase our dreams while accessing the tenacity with which we fuel the pursuit.
Scripture reveals in 2 Timothy that we have been given self-discipline. I wonder if accessing self-discipline is more about accepting the truth of our inherent strength and less about the premise that the pursuit must be painful. By accessing the power of self-discipline and making appropriate choices, we can realize success and the fulfillment of our destinies.
