Good Monday Morning!

I hope you were able to adapt your Easter traditions to remain safe and healthy! My family had our very first Zoom meeting and included members from California to New York. It was so much fun to see everyone and spend a few precious moments connecting as a family. In some cases, we had to walk each other through technology. But even that was filled with joy and laughter. I think it’s a change we’ll implement for future gatherings when we’re not able to be together.

Speaking of change, I was impressed this week by the courage it takes for us to embrace newness, even when we don’t have other options. We like to stay in our comfort zone and sometimes make excuses and find workarounds to keep the delicate balance we’ve worked so tirelessly to create. The trouble is that when we get stuck in our areas of safety, we miss new developments and the opportunity to learn, grow, and add dimension to our lives.

Socrates viewed change this way:

Socrates Quote: “The secret of change is to focus all of your ...

We’ve been forced to make changes in recent weeks that we wouldn’t ordinarily have entertained. As a result, we’ve observed communities coming together to support one another and to reach out to others who need assistance. There have been so many acts of kindness! We’ve seen young people volunteering to shop for our older adult population and virtual meetings to assist with everything from loneliness to tutoring. We’ve watched an entire population embrace technology who may not have entertained the thought much less become proficient, and we’ve witnessed an unprecedented explosion of compassion and faith.

Building the new has become an art form. It’s one that is limitless in its scope and boundless in its enthusiasm. It’s one that has become an example of resilience for future generations.

I treasure the Song of Songs and found the hope in this passage of Scripture very encouraging:

“Can you not discern this new day of destiny breaking forth around you? The early signs of my purposes and plans are bursting forth. The budding vines of new life are now blooming everywhere. The fragrance of their flowers whispers, “There is change in the air.” Arise, my love, my beautiful companion, and run with me to the higher place. For now is the time to arise and come away with me.”  Song of Songs 2:13 (TPT)

Someone recently challenged me to consider this question: What version of yourself will emerge at the end of this current crisis? I’m now asking you to spend time with this same question. Will you focus your energy on the old or embrace building the new?

I hope your week is filled with possibilities as you embrace change in this new season!

Be Well & Be Blessed!
